Who knew?

So growing up we always watched sports!! ...Moreso with my Mom than with my Dad! My sister and I watched tennis, golf, ...always the Olympics. ...but when my Mom retired, we discovered her love of basketball! ....my Mom (and I say this with as much pride as I do amazement), my Mom knows every single player in the NBA! She knows what position they play, where they went to school, when they got drafted (and in what round), why they got traded, ....she and my husband spend March huddled together until the "madness" is over!!

...who knew my Mom was this cool?!

I remember the day this pix was taken! WOW!...this was almost 30years ago! In my head she still looks like this! I remember she was in our backyard in NYC...that's right, a backyard in NYC!! I dont remember who took the pix, but she was looking at her tomatoes. No matter where we lived, she had a garden. She planted dahlias, azaleas, and tulips; tomatoes, potatoes, scallions and carrots, and a whole host of other things that I just cant remember.
It's funny, no matter what age I was, how much older I got, I always thought my mom was 27. She's always had such a youthful appearance and boundless energy!

So where did the time go, huh? Just a minute ago I was 7 years old, and she was...ummm... so young (I still have to be discreet, she's not gone yet!). The weekend after Thanxgiving was always reserved for baking the christmas fruitcakes (she let me mix the butter and sugar) while we sang Christmas carols and channel-surfed til we found a Christmas movie ...and today, I'm 37, and it seems a just minute later and I cant imagine starting the cakes without her (I still just mix the butter and sugar)!

I can remember growing up, Mommy was so happy all the time! She used to sing, and try to get me to sing with her. It was great! We were loud, and we were good (ok, maybe not so good, but the louder we got the better it sounded to us!!). Whenever I think of her, I always see her singing.

Today was a good day. I was with my family, Mommy included. She was cranky, but cranky is good because that means she's responsive! Wow,..never thought I'd live to hear myself say "cranky is good!". I am the anti-thesis of cranky!!
